2018-2019 NYPL Cunningham Dance Fellowship

As a 2018-2019 Cunningham Dance Research Fellow with the New York Pulblic LIbrary, I embarked on research into the pedagogy of Cunningham Technique. Titled Cunningham Technique as a Practice of Freedom, this original research connects the philosophies at the foundation of the work to the classroom practice. I presented the paper at the NYPL Cunningham Dance Research Symposium, Januaru 2019 ; at the American College Dance Association Southeast Regional Conference in March 2019; and soon at the American Dance Festival in summer 2019. For an overview, visit the NYPL Blog to read my post from February 2019.

The research continues as I share the traditional classroom practice, find useful intersections with somatic practices, and experiment with alternative methods for teaching the philosophical and physical principles of the work.
